ABOUT principals

arthur stevens

Since completing his PhD in 1989, Arthur started his professional life as a vision scientist performing research work on the natural eye lens.

His research at the University of California, Santa Cruz, (USA) utilised Nuclear Magnetic Resonance to better understand the lens and how it forms cataracts. Upon his return to Australia he was awarded a NH&MRC fellowship to study the effects of diabetes on cataract formation. Arthur has written several papers and given many speeches on the lens and the effects of diabetes on cataract formation, in the community and to other allied health professionals.

While working at the National Vision Research Institute (Melbourne) he developed an interest in the clinical aspects of vision and completed an Optometric degree at the University of Melbourne in 1996.

Since 1999 he has been an integral part of the team at Kosmac & Clemens Optometrists. His areas of interest include vascular diseases in the eye, Behavioural Optometry and Childrens Vision assessments. He is accredited for LASIK co-management, Corneal Refractive Therapy and has completed the post-graduate Ocular therapeutics course. He has also completed a graduate certificate in business administration.

Outside of work he spends much of his time with his children and when time permits he enjoys travelling & table tennis.
